Enjoy an Eco-friendly Holiday In The UK

As many of you know the topic of sustainability and eco-conscious practices are very close to our heart at The Grain Store, Lewes and runs through everything we do from our creation, to how we work and our vision for the future. So, we thought it was only apt to write a blog on the importance of and our commitment to sustainability.

Sustainability in the tourism industry

Far more than just a trend, the need for more sustainable and conscious environmental practices is becoming increasingly important in the tourism industry. With global temperatures rising and the climate crisis no longer inevitable, we collectively need to think of new ways of adapting and working to support our beautiful planet.

Sustainability and eco-conscious practices are very close to our heart at The Grain Store

A whopping 53% of global travellers want to travel more sustainably to reduce the negative impact on local cultures and the environment, according to Booking.com’s 2021 Sustainable Travel Report. So, what can we do to mitigate our impact within the tourism industry?

Here are a few ways we can be more sustainable:

Protecting the environment.

There’s no doubt tourism can have a significant impact on the environment, from air and water pollution to deforestation and habitat loss. Sustainable practices can help to reduce these impacts, things like using renewable energy, conserving water and reducing waste. When tourists travel to a new destination, they want to experience the local culture and way of life. At The Grain Store, Lewes, we take great pride in partnering and collaborating with local businesses and communities, but more on that later.

Building a more sustainable future.

The tourism industry is a major contributor to climate change and other environmental problems. That’s why we work hard to build a more sustainable future by reducing our own environmental impact and promoting responsible practices..

We are always working to reduce our environmental impact at The Grain Store

We all have a role to play to help and can adopt sustainable practices, all of which we are proud to say we do at The Grain Store, Lewes:

  • Use renewable energy sources, such as solar power.

  • Conserve water by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances, and by using rainwater harvesting systems.

  • Reduce waste by recycling and composting, and by using reusable products.

  • Support local businesses and suppliers.

  • Educate tourists about sustainable practices.

  • Promote responsible tourism behaviours, such as minimising their environmental impact and respecting local cultures.

By adopting sustainable practices, we can all play our role in protecting the environment, supporting local communities, and creating authentic experiences for tourists. Offering sustainable, luxury accommodation for people wanting to visit this beautiful part of the world helps us have a positive impact on our planet.
